Magen Avot is an elementary school in the Old City of Tsfat made up of 350 children from the most diverse backgrounds who are mainstreamed together to form a unique student body. The vast majority of the students come from families that live below the poverty line and many of the children are orphaned or from broken homes. Knowing that good nutrition and health are vital to the ability to learn and develop properly; for years, Magen Avot has provided a fresh hot lunch for every child.

The hot lunch program at Magen Avot is a quarter of the school’s operating budget and casts a heavy monthly burden. When financial difficulties were first encountered, outside educational directors were consulted for advice. Their advice was simple:
“Shut down the hot lunch program.”

However, when it was realized all of the children who would be losing a hot meal every day (for some, it is their only good meal), it was clear that immediate action was needed.

The HOT MEALS FOR KIDS Campaign was born.

Sponsorship opportunities consist of sponsoring hot meals for one or more children for a given time period. Since the inception of the program, we have found friends around the world who are active sponsors for the children. Yet we are still far from our goal: We must find sufficient sponsors who will ensure a hot meal for every single child.
